Lunar Fishing Calendars - How Do They Work?

Lunar fishing calendars are becoming increasingly popular tools to plan successful fishing trips. Although some fisherman will object to their value, the majority will find that they can dramatically help to increase their catch rate. Personally I never leave home without one for my specific destination.

How does it work?

Basically it is a calendar that is centered around the moon rather then the sun. Fishing Times depend on the current moon phase, moon age, moon rise, moon set, sun rise and sun set times. Because these times differ for each location, these calendars are always location specific. Good Fishing Calendars normally provide a day rating for each day and an indication for the best time to go fishing on that particular day. According to the Solunar Fishing Theory there are four time periods each day when fish will most likely bite. These times are called major and minor times and they usually extend over a period of 2 - 3 hours.

How can it help me to catch more fish?

If you are a keen fisherman it is a good idea to always have a fishing calendar handy. Otherwise you might be spending long boring hours trying to catch fish while they are just not feeding. When fish are not in a feeding mood, they most likely wont take even the juiciest bait. So don't wast your valuable time, get a fishing calendar, look up good days to go fishing (normally around new or full moon), pick the best times for these days, check the weather forecast and you will be on your way to come home with a nice catch. My advice is to keep one in your car, hang one up at your garage wall or use one to scribble notes on it and you'll always be a step ahead.
